Before the race
Bib retrieval
Despite the lot of people, everything was so tidy and well classified they had no trouble to find the number 1213. all that remained was to recover the jersey, the bag with the wine bottle gifts, mug, poster, can … He was able to swap his shirt which was too big for him without problem. He could try it in a cabin.
There were different partners stands showing every possible equipment related to cycling, like clothes, tires, cans …
On the ground floor, people coming with bikes could easely park of course !
D-Day !
Hop hop hop !! We had to hurry to get up for the 7am departure time (1 pm in France)
My dear cyclist get up before 4am and was ready to leave the hotel at 5am. Cyclist were escorted by police, which was really great for the safety of all !
I installed my computer and after a few minutes of trouble with the hotel WiFi connection I finally managed to watch the race live reporting on YouTube.
I stared and focused on the screen … Nathan was still sleeping (for once!) but it didn’t matter I took my laptop to the bathroom !
Suddenly I saw him ! Thanks to his yellow helmet and pink cans … I could not miss him !
It was crazy, for the first time of my life I was abble to watch my athlete live on screen, I was so proud!
Mini Haas woke up right on time to get ready and go to the place of arrival We didn’t want to miss dad !
We took the direct shuttle from the hotel to the meeting point.
Once again, great organization !
A small “green” village welcomed cyclists and their families. Huge parking where everyone could park his bike, stands to eat and drink, toilets, and even showers !
Every race does not offer that!We found a stand for lost objects and a special tent to follow the results. Big podium in the middle and even chairs per hundred was available in the grass ….
Note that the place was really clean, not a paper that hangs on the horizon…unfortunately the same cannot always be said in France !
New Yorkers seems very respectful of the environment.
The host was excellent speaking several languages and add the atmosphere on the finish line. He invited many people of different countries to stand up at the mike ! We could ear Colombian, Italian, American, French, German, Swiss people talking…
A car with 4 impressive but reassuring policemen armed to the teeth arrived
At noon, the first rider finally crossed the line followed by the applause of the crowd ! Second and third arrived and twenty minutes later a group of ten riders
I did still waiting, when my phone rang with the number of Cedric appearing. I immediateky though he had a problem !
Nothing happenened except that He was so dirty that I did not recognize him when he crossed the line !!
Nathan and I rushed to join him !
We went to sit under the big tent where he could eat a plate of pasta but of course it was not enough after 4 hours of cycling not to mention the awakening early morning it digs the stomach. So we decided to eat at the nearest McDonald’s while dad went back to the hotel to take a shower. (where he stook naked in the hallway but I would not say more about this!)
At 2pm we went back to the place of arrival to check the final results Cédric was 12th !
amazing with a 1213 bib number !
We were so surprised
I’m so proud of him and his incredible results !
At 3 pm we saw the podium parade of the winners, the first male and female riders received a brand new bike engraved with their names.
We enjoyed this sunny and continued our visit of New York.
race live videos and report available here
I can not wait to go back to New York for May 2019, and see him wearing his 12 bib number !
